Post-graduate course: “Use of large scale data in dietary intervention studies

Background Post-graduate courses/workshops have been held on several occasions just prior to NuGOweek offering PhD students an opportunity to attend a training course and a scientific meeting with no additional costs. In 2016 a post-graduate course will be held on: – Saturday 3rd  September (kick off, introduction, lecture and informal get together/dinner), – Sunday 4th September (lectures and group work), – Monday 5th September (rounding up  group work, lecture and group presentations). Target group PhD students with an interest in nutrigenomics, molecular nutrition and personalized nutrition. Please note that the focus of this postgraduate course will be on human intervention studies. Course aim The objective of the course is to give students possibilities to see and experience how to plan, handle and have results on large scale data within the dietary interventions. Programme topics In seven lectures a variety of topics will be discussed; – The use of large scale data in nutrition research, – How to interpret data and the use of bioinformatics – Design of controlled dietary interventions, – Epigenomics, metabolomics and transcriptomics – Application of biomarkers Group work:  how to plan a well-designed dietary intervention that includes large scale data collection. Participants will receive designs of the dietary interventions, and they should plan how, when, who and what. For this purpose, the lecturers will perform some designs that has been conducted previously, and students will plan how to plan omics-analyses to answer the defined study questions. Please note that participants can actively propose research questions to address specific research areas during the registration process.
