Tools and methods for mass spectrometry metabolomics in nutrition

A NuGO workshop at INRA, Clermont-Ferrand

December 12-14, 2007

The aim of this workshop is to enhance the quality and comparability of mass spectrometry metabolomics in nutrition.

The objectives to be fulfilled are to:

  •  Identify and better control the main sources of technical variability
  • Optimize the amount and quality of the biological information generated
  • Propose, validate and establish best practices and standards for all technical aspects of metabolomics studies in the field of nutrition
  • Share experiences in mass spectrometry metabolomics in nutrition
Key questions to be discussed will be:

  • Non-targeted vs. targeted approaches?
  • Key tecnical options for the future of metabolomics in nutrition
  •  How to organize and stimulate global effort at the international level?

The Programme of the workshop "Tools and methods for mass spectrometry metabolomics in nutrition" is organized in 6 different sessions:

  1. Sampling, storing and processing of biological samples
Moderator: Lorraine BRENNAN (UCD, Dublin, Brennan, Lorraine)
  2. Mass spectrometry analyses
Moderator: Thomas HANKEMEIER (Univ. of Leiden, Hankemeier, Thomas)
  3. Data extraction
    Moderator: Elwin VERHEIJ (TNO, Zeist)
  4. Data analysis
Moderator: Bruce KRISTAL (Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, Kristal, Bruce S.)
  5. Metabolite identification
Moderator: David WISHART (Univ. of Alberta)
  6. Biological interpretation
Moderators: Suzan Wopereis & Ben van Ommen (TNO, Zeist)

In the links of these pages the presentations have been uploaded that were shown during the different sessions of the workshop. The conclusions of the workshop can be found in the attachments to this page.

There is room for poster presentations which contribute to the theme of the workshop, applications of metabolomics in nutrition or directly describe methods and tools which can be applied in this area. Deadline for poster abstract submission is October 12th 2007. More information on poster & abstract submission can be found at: Posters & Abstracts
