NuGOweek 2008, Potsdam, Germany
2nd-5th September 2008 - August 2008
This is the NuGOWeek 2008 Update. It will guide you through important information and is a must to read if you are attending the NuGOWeek 2008. Some 340 people are currently registered to attend NuGOweek 2008 including 50 non-NuGO members from a variety of different organisations.
Arrival and departure
NuGOweek 2008 starts on Tuesday, 2nd September 2008 and finishes on Friday, 5th September 2008.
Unless you are attending one of the Monday workshops (Type 2 Diabetic Workshop or Human Studies Workshop ), please do not plan to arrive on Monday. Anyone planning to stay on beyond Friday should already have made arrangements with the hotel. Unless you have provided information otherwise, your room will be booked from Tuesday, 2nd September to Friday, 5th September (3 nights).

Arriving on Monday and Tuesday
No shuttle buses have been organised from the airports, but there are many public transport options. Advice about travel to the Kongresshotel Potsdam from the airports can be found online <click here>
Departing on Friday, 5th September
Shuttle buses will be arranged to take you directly to the airports. Please check information displayed at reception on Tuesday during registration. If you are leaving before Friday, please make your own arrangements.
Check-in, check-out, and registration
NuGO delegates will be able to check in to their rooms at Kongresshotel Potsdam from 14.00 onwards (or as early as a room is available). On Friday, 5th September, all rooms must be vacated by 11.00/ 11am – luggage can be stored safely by the hotel.
Registration will be in front of the congress hall, and will be open on:
- Monday, 1st September from 13.15-14.00 for workshop participants ONLY
- Tuesday, 2nd September from 14.30-16.15 for NuGOweek 2008
Whilst at NuGOweek 2008, any questions about accommodation, registration or payments should be referred to Ingeborg van Leeuwen-Bol as soon as possible. This includes reimbursement for speakers from non-NuGO organisations.

Type 2 Diabetic Workshop
There are still a few places available for this workshop. If you would like to attend and you have already booked to go to NuGOweek, please contact your Partner Coordinator to see if you can attend.
Focus Team Meetings
Some FTs are meeting on Tuesday afternoon. These meetings are by invitation only. Accommodation on the Monday night has been made available for those who are not able to travel on Tuesday. These meetings are not the same as the sessions included in the programme, which are open all conference delegates.
Abstract and Posters
Thank you for sending so many excellent abstracts again this year. In total, we received 139 abstracts; 123 will be presented as posters and 16 as short oral presentations during the main sessions. The posters are divided between 13 categories, which are largely based on the activities of the NuGO Focus Teams.
During NuGOweek, the scientific committee will judge the poster for the NuGOweek science prize and Siân Astley will do the same for the NuGOweek communication prize. Both prizes will be awarded during the closing ceremony on Friday, 5th September.
All posters should be on display from Tuesday afternoon until Thursday evening. Posters should be removed by 08.00 (8am) on Friday morning. The posters are located in Kongresshotel Potsdam foyer. There are no oral presentation of posters, but please be with your poster during the appropriate sessions so people can ask questions.
Speakers
A laptop and beamer will be made available for your presentation. Please give a copy of your presentation to conference secretariat as soon as possible and not later than the morning/ afternoon before your talk.
Presentations should be in Power Point office 2003 UK version, operating system is Windows XP. You may use a memory stick and/ or a copy on CD. Please do not use a re-writeable CD or DVD. Also, we cannot allow use of personal laptops.After the conference, we will upload your presentation (as a .PDF file) to NuGOnet (members’ only area). If you need to make changes to your presentation before it is uploaded, please tell NuGO's Communications Manager, Siân Astley (sian.astley@bbsrc.ac.uk, tel. +44 1603 255219, +7717617875).
Other questions/ problems regarding presentations and other conference arrangements (including the social programme) should be addressed initially with Anke Schmidt or Stephanie Wirth, and the team of helpers on site.

Internet connections
Computer terminals with internet connection wil be available in the conference office. If you would like to use your own computer, you may purchase WLAN/ WiFi access at reception.
Meals and refreshments
During the breaks, coffee and tea will be served in the Kongresshotel Potsdam foyer. Breakfast will be served in the restaurant "Graf Zeppelin". For serving times, please check at reception during registration. Lunches will be served in the Kongresshotel Potsdam foyer.
NuGO will pay for the drinks on the boat on Wednesday; Tuesday and Thursday, you are kindly requested to purchase your own drinks at the bar or in the restaurant.
If you have expressed a specific dietary need (as compared with like/ dislike) when you registered, this information will have been passed to the catering teams of the mentioned restaurants. Those needing special diets (e.g. vegetarian, lactose- or gluten-free meals) will be catered for individually; you should speak with the waiters in charge at meal times.
During August there may be some delay (up to 5 working days) responding to enquiries. We will answer you but please be patient during this holiday period.
