Open position for a postdoctoral fellow
This project is financed via the European Network of Excellence on Nutrigenomics (www.nugo.org), which is a partnership between 22 research institutions. NuGO aims at creating a world-leading virtual center of excellence to develop and integrate modern biological technologies for the benefit of European nutritional science.
As a part of this activity money has been funded for work in a Focus Team on: “Adipose tissue growth and function during development of the metabolic syndrome”. The work represents extensive collaboration between several European research groups including one postdoctoral salary for 24 months, 24 months of bench fee of € 1200/months and travel costs of € 5000/year.
We will describe the biological alterations of 5 different adipose depots in rodents fed high fat diets with different fatty acid patterns, as compared to regular low fat chow. The work is focused on ApoE3Leiden transgenic mice which develop signs of the metabolic syndrome on high fat diets. We will measure the expression of genes by micro-array in the adipose depots at certain time points with particular focus on adipokines. Adipokines, cytokines and lipoprotein fractions will also be measured in the serum of the animals on control and high fat diet. Proteomics and lipidomics will be performed to a limited extent in some tissues, and the data will be prosessed based on a system biological approach. The analyses will be performed in collaboration with a number of scientific groups in NuGO.
We search for a postdoc with experience preferably in molecular biology, systems biology and bioinformatics but we are also open to other scientific backgrounds. The important point is that the person is able to pick up new biological and statistical techniques rapidly and be able to collaborate with several different research groups in Europe.
The highly committed post-doc will be based at the Department of Nutrition, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Oslo, Norway.
Salary and conditions are as normal in Norway. Unfortunately, only European Union citizens may apply for this post.
