The aim of this module is to show
- The role of various genes in nutrition-related complex diseases such as obesity and diabetes
- How to delineate mechanisms by which implicated genes, in cooperation with environment, cause clinical disease
- Different approaches used in the search for genes that increase susceptibility to obesity and diabetes
- Importance of environmental triggers in the search for the underlying genetic causes
- Complexity of identifying susceptibility genes of modest effect

Depending on the students’ background, the estimated time needed to complete the module is 25-40 hrs. Time indicated does not include preparation for the exam. The study load for the complete module including the exam is rated at 1.5 ECTS.
