The goal of the NBX project
As a relatively large European scientific network, one of NuGO's targets was to provide every participating institute with computing and data storage/sharing facilities via similar machines, with a centrally organised set-up, logon access, and update policy.

The Black Boxes (NBXs) fulfill several goals:
  1. Enabling easy data storage and sharing and facilitate cooperation between several groups or partners
  2. Providing each partner with a relatively powerful machine for analysis, running pre-installed dedicated software (partly freeware, partly commercial software for which NuGO acquired central licences)
  3. Enabling users to run computer intensive jobs on any or several machine(s) within the network
  4. Provide everybody with an accessible-from-anywhere machine, via web-interfaces and SSH/VNC access
